Dr. Eldon L. McMurray earned a doctorate degree in reading from Brigham Young University in 2006. He began his teaching career in 1984 teaching elementary school for three years then he taught secondary school for ten years. He went on and taught college reading and learning courses for 22 years. The heart of his educational philosophy is to value individuality, embrace multiple perspectives, and place high importance on meeting the needs of each of his students. Dr. McMurray believes that all students are capable individual learners regardless of age, or area of study. He embraces the idea that much of the learning comes from within each student. Eldon is fascinated with life and he is always learning.
Dr. McMurray is the recipient of the Jon and Karen Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education. He is a former university associate professor, a textbook co-author, a scholar of brain active learning, a researcher of best practices for teaching and learning effectiveness, and an award-winning educator. He served on the Utah Governor’s Board for Academic Literacy. He has taught Reading and Critical Thinking, Power Reading and Learning Strategies, and Speed Reading at Utah Valley University. Besides his family, teaching and students are among his greatest loves.
